When Colt died in 1862, the company was a major manufacturer of arms during the Civil War. Two years later, in a fire thought to have been set by Confederate sympathizers, the Armory was once again ruined. Colt's widow, Elizabeth, rebuilt an exact replica of the Colt's Old Armory in 1867 where it still stands today.

Today, the original Colt operation is a faded memory here in Hartford, but the buildings largely remain and is today the home of United States Fire-Arms Manufacturing Co., Inc. The skilled hands of workmen and engineers are busy producing the finest firearms in the very same 19th century building that once was Colt's Old Armory.
